Monterey County Board of Education Declares April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Monterey County is presented with a formal Resolution recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month on April 10, 2024.

In an effort to increase awareness of child abuse and neglect, the Monterey County Board of Education unanimously passed Resolution No. 23-24-23 formally acknowledging the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Board President Janet Wohlgemuth, Superintendent Deneen Guss, and other MCOE Board members presented the Resolution to CAPC Director Ginger Pierce and CAPC members Colleen Stanley and Heather Owen.

The event provided an opportunity to publicly recognize the efforts of CAPC of Monterey County to spread information on recognizing and reporting child maltreatment as well as providing vital resources to at-risk families and mandated reporters. Partnerships with community and government agencies such as Door to Hope, First 5 of Monterey County, the Community Alliance for Safety and Peace (CASP), and numerous others allow CAPC to provide meaningful insight and information on child abuse prevention. Community members may also take advantage of learning mandated reporter responsibilities and child trauma responses to better enhance their understanding of child neglect and prevention.

By working together, MCOE and CAPC of Monterey County hope to create a supportive, nurturing environment where all Monterey County children and youth can thrive.

The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Monterey County plays the role of a catalyst, convener, and coordinator for program planning, support and oversight for local prevention of child abuse efforts. To learn more visit capcmonterey.org.
